Abstract:

Includes snapshots and formal portraits of Lundbeck taken throughout his life, including his boyhood in California and his career in the United States Navy (a few taken during World War II); his legal father (or stepfather?) Charles Anderson and facilities of the Anderson Blowpipe Company; and various family members, including photographs possibly depicting his biological father Morris P. Lundbeck, as well as a photograph album of nineteenth century cartes-de-visite, cabinet cards and tintypes depicting Lundbeck family ancestors from Denmark, California and elsewhere. Also includes postcards depicting Heinold's First and Last Chance Saloon, early United Airlines aircraft, and other subjects. Also includes a few documents pertaining to Morris P. Lundbeck, among other papers.

Paul James Lundbeck was born October 9, 1918, he was a third generation native of San Francisco and attended Galileo High School and graduated from Stanford University in 1940. During World War II he served as an anti-submarine net defense officer and net control officer in charge of the Pacific side of the Panama Canal, and commanding officer of several early warning ships protecting against Japanese aircraft and submarines (1943). From 1944-1946 he was anti-submarine warfare officer of the George E. Davis, DE-357, which led the Leyte Gulf invasion for the liberation of the Philippines, the Okinawa invasion and the defeat of Japan. In 1950 he was recalled by the Navy, serving two years in the Korean War as operations officer and executive officer of the USS Higbee, DDR-806, operating with Carrier Task Forces of the Seventh Fleet against North Korea.
